Social Innovation Camp – The Campers Come Home

By Leif Kendall • Apr 15th, 2008 • Category: Conferences, Features

SiCamp, the conference that aimed to solve just some of society’s multifarious ills, ended last weekend after a frenzied few days’ work.

Enabled by Design was the winner of the £2000 prize. This is a great initiative to provide better aids to disabled people through a combination of modern design and an eBay-style second-hand market.

Prison Visits, which would allow visitors to rate their prison visit in a bid to improve conditions for visitors, grabbed the runners-up prize and £1000.It will be interesting to see how many of the SiCamp projects turn into working websites. Project Brighton will continue to follow all the teams’ progress with interest. For more from the camp check out Premasagar Rose’s post on the Dharmafly blog.

One fantastically compelling nugget from their presentation video: “a power drill is used for 20 mins in its lifetime”. Just knowing that makes me want to share my poor under-used drill!
